I grew up on a farm near Belle Plaine, Iowa and was the youngest of four children (my identical twin sister is only 9 minutes older, but I’m still the youngest!). While training for a marathon in Fort Dodge in October of 1980, I ran into an acquaintance who introduced me to Christ, and right there in the middle of the street, I accepted Him as my Lord and Savior. At the time, I was in nursing school, and from 1983 to 1989 I worked as a Registered Nurse, and spent most of my spare time in Bible studies.
In 1987 I accepted my first opportunity to lead Bible studies, and have been involved in Bible studies and ministry since then. After the death of my first husband, I moved to Texas with my three children and finished my Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Psychology at a Baptist university. When I decided to move back to Iowa, I moved to Marshalltown where I have worked in counseling and teaching (at the colleges) since 1995. I started working at First Baptist Church as the church counselor in 2005, and then started working in Senior Ministries when Pastor Conrad decided to retire in 2008. I also have helped to organize and lead the FBC disaster relief teams after the floods in 2008. I am a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors and I have over 25 years of experience in ministry and counseling. My education includes an Associate Degree in Nursing from Iowa Central Community College, and a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Psychology from Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas.
I am now remarried to Craig Sayre and together we have 6 children and 7 grandchildren. My hobbies are walking, swimming, tennis, reading, and Bible study. My passion is to demonstrate the love of Christ to others through service and encouragement. You may contact Becky at
