Minister of Youth, Blair Benefield |
|
I was born in Victorville, California but grew up in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. I am the middle of three boys (which might explain some of my mental issues). I grew up in church and gave my life to Christ at summer camp when I was 8 years old. Several years later, I surrendered my career path to do whatever God called me to do.
It wasn’t until I was on a college visit my junior year of high school that I felt God calling me into Youth Ministry. This came as a surprise to everyone since I was well on my way to becoming the world’s youngest and strongest man (ok maybe not, but teenage guys can dream can’t they?). I went on to attend Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Missouri and majored in Youth Ministry and Bible and minored in Missions. I worked so hard that I turned the four year program into five – OOPS! After my sophomore year, I came to FBC to do a summer internship intended to last 3 months, but turned into 6 months. In addition to all the things I learned and experienced, I met my future wife and best friend here at FBC. Disa and I were married at FBC in June 2001.
I was a youth pastor in West Virginia before being called to FBC in October of 2004. Even though I’m not a big fan of the winter weather here in Iowa, I do love the youth ministry here at First Baptist. Some of my hobbies include playing and coaching volleyball, running, watching American Idol and 24, and just hanging out with Disa and our awesome dog, Oswald. I am currently working on my Master’s degree in Counseling and hope to be in some aspect of youth ministry until I retire. You may contact Blair at
