Library Update

August 20

 BOOK SALE CONTINUES

Awesome!  That's what we can say for the support we got from the book sale Sunday.  Thank you for your support!!  We are running the sale again this coming Sunday, August 22 so come and check out what remains. Your freewill donation is going to be put to good use and it's you that will benefit the most.

 DONATIONS

Yes, we want your donations.  We have set up little criteria for donations so let me take a minute to explain those to you....

1 - Items should be in good condition

2 - Items should be appropriate to be in a church library

3 - Items need to have a copyright of 1990 or more current - preferably 2000 or newer

4 - If an item is a duplicate of what we already have, it will be saved for our next fundraiser/book sale.

5 - DVD’s and audio books will also be accepted.

6 - Monetary donations are always put to great use.

Anything donated when the library is open can obviously be brought into the library and given to the person in charge for the day.  If you have something and the library is not open, please leave donations at the church office or in the container outside the library labeled Donations.  We will be checking both areas at least twice a week. Cash or checks should be given to a person rather than leaving it unattended.

We are excited as time get closer.  Make sure you check here next week for what's new!!

It’s a Book Sale! Remember back in June when we reported that we were evaluating the current book collection in the library? Well, we decided to have a book sale of books that we had multiple duplicates of and/or were too old to keep on the shelves. The books will be available for your purchase in the café on the south side of the building. Free will offering will be taken for the books that you would like to have and even if you don’t want a book, we will gladly take any monetary donations.

Come check it out….there may be one there that you read a long time ago and wouldn’t mind reading it again or there might be one that catches your eye that would be good to have in your collection.

See you then!!!

Dreams…….that is what we had from the beginning and it was a place to start.  Some of those dreams are actually coming true and they have beenlibrar1c4_web totally free of charge!  We have acquired some office furniture and a computer from local businesses to help with our new look in the library.  Our objective was to try to get things donated so we could save our money to buy software and books for the library and it’s all falling together.  We have been truly blessed.

We would like to extend to you a need and if you can help that would be AWESOME!  Since we are getting these generous donations of equipment/furniture for the space, we would like to enhance our library with the following purchases which would exceed our library budget:

Library Software – use for inventory, check out system and look up info of library holdings

Books – NonFiction, Fiction, Childrens, Youth, and Adult

DVDs – Movies, Documentaries, Studies

How can you help?  By making a monetary donation above and beyond your weekly church giving and ear mark it for the church library.  You can give it on a Sunday morning, drop it by the church office or contact one of us to make arrangements.  It just needs to be clearly noted that it is for the church library renovation.

Thank you for prayerfully considering this opportunity for you to be a part of the new library.  If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact either one of us.

We are moving! How exciting is that?!?!? One of our concerns about the church library was that there are many that didn’t even know the library existed and then for some they knew it was somewhere but not sure where or how to use it. So…..the library is moving to have better accessibility and be more visible.

Where might it be moving to? Glad you asked!!! The room that is by the kitchen in the café, formally called the Upper Lounge, is the spot you will be able to find the new library. Within the past 6 months, the Upper Lounge was totally changed to be a classroom for Sunday School classes and/or bible studies. The current library location, by the nursing nursery, will accommodate that same setup and actually give more room for bigger groups. In turn it will give the library more visibility and access for you. It was a good "swap" of space and those involved are on board with the change.

Changes will start on July 26. The classroom will be available for use on Sunday, August 1 in the new location and the library will begin to be set up for it’s new look. For the month of August, the library collection will not be available for use but our grand opening is set for Kick Off Sunday, September 12. Not only will we have a new look and new materials but we will also be in a new location.

Thank you for your prayers. We are thankful that everyone is being flexible, encouraging and supportive of the new library plan. Looking forward to updating you on what the future holds!

Since the library has locked it’s doors, an extensive evaluation of the library contents is going on and we are finding that many of the books on the shelves have not been checked out in a very long time or they are very old in copyright. Each book is reviewed with the intention to keep the library up to date and give you, the patron, the best of reading choices. Once the whole collection has been looked at, we will purge the old and begin our selective purchasing of new materials to put on the shelves.

One of the resources that has kept the library afloat over the years are your generous donations.

Donations are wonderful to increase our library collection. However, in benchmarking with other church libraries in town, it was evident that we need to put a copyright year on donations so our collection doesn’t age to the point where no one wants to check anything out.

Please continue donating your unwanted Christian books to the library but we are asking that you check the copyright of the books to make sure they are 10-15 years old. Donations made this summer can be left in the church office or by the library door. We will make sure they are taken care of.

Reading is becoming an activity that many do not experience these days. With the computer, dvds, ipods and other electronic devices, we let the device do our reading and we do the listening. Reading stimulates the mind and keeps our thinking sharp and gives us motivation. We want to rejuvenate the activity of reading to help us use our minds while giving you good information and entertainment to occupy your time.

Please continue to pray for this project. We are excited to give the library some life and generate some enthusiasm amongst the church family to utilize what there is out there for all to learn and grow from. Thank you for your patience and we will update our progress.
